These guys shot to worldwide superstardom too quickly and were not prepared for it. How could they've been? It was a uniquely '80s success story. No one in Rock prior to that–not the Beatles, Rolling Stones, Led Zeppelin, anyone–shot to such acclaim so swiftly & with so much outside attention from the world press focused on their every move. These guys could've had it all if they hadn't melted under the pressure right as they were on the cusp of historical greatness. The story of Guns N Roses was more than just one of an overnight success story; theirs is a moment in time forever frozen because they didn't hang around too long and lose their edge or "it" factor– like Metallica, Aerosmith, or the Rolling Stones. Hell, it's 30 years later and people still whisper tales of their legendary antics of debauchery & excess. Like a shooting star, GnR blazed a scorching trail and vanished as suddenly, and as gloriously as they appeared. Sadly, the tragic ballad of GnR isn't one about their music, but of the legends that sprang up around them in their wake of cutting a ferocious path through the '80s glam-metal scene while on their way to conquering the world. It's been said numerous times before but it's as true today as it ever was: There will never be another Guns N Roses.... For better, and for worse.
